I love to read. Books, magazine articles, blogs, tweets, the format isn’t important to me. What counts is the content. I regularly read something that really resonates. Yesterday was one such day.
Two quotes struck a chord with me. The first was from Apple Supremo Steve Jobs;
“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith”.
This really hit home, for a variety of personal reasons, but hit home nonetheless. It came at the right time, was in the right context and gave me a sharp jolt of re – focus with respect to the circumstances I was faced with.
Within minutes came something else. This time Mark Twain hit all the right notes and summed up for me something that I deeply believe to be true yet had lost in the fog that becomes the “stuff” we all have to do, day in, day out;
“What work I have done I have done because it because it has been play. If it had been work I shouldn’t have done it”.
Result? A sharp re – focus back to the bigger picture of what I want to achieve. A quick re – evaulation of what I was doing and my compelling purpose, my “why” came sharply back in to focus.
I felt compelled to share these pearls of wisdom if only because they struck at the heart of something that is really important to me but that I had forgotten amongst all the “stuff” swimming around in my head during my day.
We all need a little reminder from time to time of what it is that we are here to do. Of why we are doing it. Yesterday was one such day and I am grateful for it.
