Everybody faces challenges. Without exception. What shapes us, what shapes our future, is how we deal with adversity.
We all have a choice. When something hits you, hard, what do you do? Do you stay down? Do you bounce straight back up and keep coming? Do you stop, take stock, learn from the experience? Do you ignore it, bury it, carry on bravely regardless?
You have a decision to make. Often it doesn’t feel that way. You can be paralysed by the fear of making the “wrong” choice, but you have a choice. Do nothing at all? That’s a choice. Or you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again. You choose.
There is much to be learned from sharing in the experience of others. Ultimately it is how we respond to our own experiences and the choices we take, that truly shape our lives.
At his 2005 Stanford University commencement speech, Steve Jobs, urges us to pursue our dreams and see the opportunities in life’s setbacks — including death itself.
What choices will you make today?
